So, here's my situation.
Got an Acer Aspire One Netbook. First thing I wanted to do was get rid of the bloatware by doing a fresh install.
I used:
http://www.liliputing.com/2008/04/install-windows-xp-on-mini-note-usb.html
That method to get my Windows XP Professional on a USB flash drive.
So I go and do a Text install on the notebook, I delete all partitions, and form a new one. Then it loads the setup files, and restarts. The next thing I see is: "Missing or corrupt hal.dll in {Windows Root}/system32"
So I take the USB flash drive out, download the hal.dll from a trusted DLL provider site, and put it on the flash drive in the correct spot. Still doesn't work. I tried putting XP on the flash drive 5 times, reinstalling 1 or 2 times for every time I put XP on.
I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. Can anybody make light of this situation?
PS: I can get into setup with the GUI way (Text Install or GUI), but I don't want to have my flash drive in all the time just in order to boot up.
