Half-Life 2 error

Whenever I try to install half-life 2, when I put in disc 5, it says that there was an error installing CS: Source because it couldn't find the "Counter-strike: source shared content" folder. Then, it says that installation was halted because of an error, and then it won't work. But, when I explore the half-life 2: disc 5, I go to where it says the file should be, and it's not there. Is there any chance it's corrupted? Could I replace the file?

Do you install both HL2 and CSS at the same time? Cause there will be a bug if you just install HL2, that's the only bug I've ever heard of.

Is this a full legit regular copy? Mine didn;t even hav 5 disks...

But since CS:S comes on the same CS's as HL2, wouldn't you install it at the same time?

I got the DVD version, the only way i cn get HL2 installed is by installin CS:S aswell.

You should try downloading the files via steam.

Allright...I followed that link that Yue sent me, and it said to update Steam and then it would work...But it didn't. Here's what it says: "Error 1334. The file 'counterstrike_source_shared_content.gcf' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl25.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."

This guy spoke to valve who told him to get it swapped for another one. If you can take it back and ask to have it replaced.

The thing is, it worked before....But I can't return it because i didn't buy it...My friend's dad got it for free and he gave my friend and I a copy.

so your not installin with an original cd? if you are using a copied cd then thts proberly your problem.

Ya, if your installing from a copied CD that most likely is your problem. And if your installing using the same CD-Key it wont let you be on steam at the same time.

No, it's not a copied CD. When I got it it was ni the original hl2 retail box, and I opened it, and there were the 5 CD's inside, each with a label showing freeman walking with his crowbar, the rating, and all the respective logos.
