Hanging when idle

The current problem i have at the moment is that my operating system keeps on crashing,

I have just installed windows 2000, and all drivers were correct and downloaded from the websites, But when the computer is idle and when its in operation keeps hanging.

first the mouse stops moving and then keyboard stops after 30 seconds after,

i have no idea on what is causing the problem or how to correct it,

i have not had any problems with the os, hard drive, memory or anything else, and supose that it is not them causing the prob,

How can i isolate the thing that is causing the os to stop responding,

EDIT: it has stopped when on the black and white loading screen before the coloured one, but has not done so since then.

It could be your ram that is causing the problem. Search for Memtest86 and do that and if your memory has errors or is corrupted then that could be your problem.

i downloaded it but it doesn't work on my pc, i managed to boot into windows, it is very delicate (on stabability) but nothing comes up, apart from mouse and taskman, thats it no icons or taskbar.
