Great advice, Drenlin - I really appreciate it!
Okay - brief thumbnail sketch for anyone who has a similar problem -
Gigabyte Mobo that crapped out - power up and die in about a second or two - no post.
Bought new Mobo as part of serious and overdue upgrade - how to get the new Mobo to access the Raid 5 from the old system?
Solution: I set up the new system, installed the new OS (Windows 7), made a live disk (Umbuntu), hooked up the Raid (installed the drivers - did NOT create new Raid) - PRESTO - now able to see, access, and copy files from the Raid to the drive with the new OS.
This Rocks.
I am presently rescuing a ton of files I thought would be safe because I had them Raid 5 archived.
Thanks to Umbuntu and Drenlin's solid advice, I was able to save a ton of data I thought might well be lost.
Thanks again!
