My hard drive Is active at idle even after idling for over 10 minutes, the HDD light flashes every couple senconds or so or stays on for a second. Is this a sign of spyware/malware? I have run AVG, Hijackthis, spybot, cccleaner, ect. All came up clean, besides the usual tracker cookies and junk.

My first thought was spyware or malware...
But if you have done the checks and nothing pops up.. Then there isn't anything wrong.
Mine does the same, it sometimes drives me up the wall because the HDD is quite noisy...

Remember that the HDD is always spinning, and never stops completly!

There are also many many processes running in the background, just to keep your operating system functioning properly, more so if you have MS Vista than Windows XP.

agreed! some programs like Diskeeper(defregmenting program), work in the background when the system is idle. go to your msconfig and disable some startups and services. The ones you dont need!
