Hard Drive Adapter

Hi,
I have a Toshiba A100 338 laptop which I have owned for just over 2 years now. It has been running fine until a couple of weeks ago when I started receiving a message when booting saying 'SMART hard drive failure, backup all data and replace hard drive etc.' So I just press F1 to bypass. My data is backed up weekly automatically by Norton 360, so I have been deciding whether to replace the hard drive or purchase a new laptop.

This morning I unplugged the laptop from the mains for a few minutes, unfortunately the battery is knackered and lasts no longer than about 5 minutes. So before I had time to plug the laptop back in, the laptop went into hibernate as the battery had run out of charge. I plugged the laptop back in and went to switch it on, I recieved the same SMART failure message but am unable to get past this screen now. I am also unable to enter the BIOS to change boot settings to enable me to boot from a disk as the laptop is in hibernation.

So I am looking for a hard drive adapter that will enable me to plug the hard drive into another PC to transfer any data on the hard drive that has not been backed up since the last backup.

Due to it's size I believe the hard drive to be 1.8" but am not 100% sure. So I am looking for a 1.8" to 3.5" adapter, or possibly to 2.5" then a 2.5" to 3.5" on top of that. I have looked on the internet for an adapter but can not find one that looks suitable. I have posted some pictures below.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Many Thanks

James

Duuuh, never crossed my mind that it was a SATA connection, thank you!!!
Ok, so I removed the hard drive from the laptop and plugged it into another computer and booted from it, came up with an error message saying that it failed to recover from hibernation, so pressed enter and it continued to boot fine, logged in and got to the desktop.

Thinking that it was sorted, I placed it back into the laptop, however the problem persists, unable to get into BIOS and unable to get past SMART hard drive failure message. Even with the hard drive removed, am unable to access BIOS, even though it worked perfectly fine in the other computer.

Any thoughts :confused::confused::confused:

Many Thanks

Why aren't you able to get to the BIOS? I mean, does it not give you the option or do you get some error message or something else?

Normally when it turns on a screen comes up with the word Toshiba across the screen, then at the bottom of the screen in a grey bar it normally says Press Del. for BIOS Press F8 for Boot options, but the bar is just blank. Even if I press the keys nothing happens.

Do you reckon removing the battery and then replacing it may sort this?
