Hard Drive Assignment in BIOS

Crunch

New Member
This is probably a stupid question, but....

My computer identifies my hard drive as "hdk" or IDE6 but I need it to identify as "hda" or IDE1 Master. How do I go into the BIOS and change that?

Thanks,

Jeff

Does it boot? If it ain't broke, don't fix it :P

However, if you must do something, from what you're saying, it sounds like you have a RAID and have the drive connected to the wrong IDE header.

You enter the bios when you first power on the system and see the post test screens beginning. But once you are in the bios you can't change what the drive is shown as. All you can do is change the boot order. It sounds like the bios programming has a flaw if it is seeing a standard ide drive as something other then the make and model on the post screen.
