I recently bought a 200gb Seagate sata hard dive. Went through the normal process of installing windows xp i.e. formatting etc. when i finally had windows xp installed on the drive i went to C drive to checkout my new 200gb capacity to my horror it said 61gb is being used on my hard drive. But when i highlight all the folders i have on the drive, right click the mouse button scroll down to properties and a box comes up and tells me how much space the folders take up on the hard drive it says 3.81GB. SO WHATS GOING ON HERE?

its only When i highlight C drive it says i have 124gb and 61 gb is being used....but when i go into c drive and highlight all the folders it says 3.81gb...can anyone help me?

Iv had this problem b4 with 160gb hard rive when i deleted the partition b4 formatting (going through the windows installing process) after deleting the partition it displayed 137gb....with the 200gb hard drive i have i didn’t delete the partition it was in fat 32 format and gave me the option to format it and convert to ntfs which i did. But now i have the problem of 61 gb being used on my hard drive and windows xp doesn’t contain that much information after a fresh install.....any help would be great.

my motherboard is asus p5vd1-x

well my problem was similar, other than the part were you only use 3 gb and it says you use 60gb. I intalled service pack 2 and it removed the barrier.

yes i found out that you can remove the barrier by installing service pack 1 or 2 so i installed service pack1 and the problem is still there. despite my computer recognizing that there is 200gb capacity there is still 61gb being used on the drive and this was even after i installed service pack 1

anymore help would be great...
