Hard drive compatability question

I have a samsung HD for a dell e1505. The model# is hm160JI. It is a 160 GB 5400 rpm. It is a sata 1.5 gb/s. Is this interchangable with the sata 3.0 GB/s? Will it make it run faster?

If the board just has 1.5 Sata controllers the 3.0 drive will run at 1.5

Burst transfers will be faster if the drive and controller are both but any sustained transfer will not be. As StrangleHold said, you can use 3.0 with 1.5.
