hard drive diagnosis - please help me!!

Hi, I'm at the end of my rope and I need some help. The situation is rather complicated so please try to follow.

I had two sata 500gb hard drives, a western digital (c:) and a samsung (e:). It was a standard setup, one with windows and the other with my data.

recently the computer started freezing. After testing everything the only problem was the primary drive, WD. My solution was to take the samsung, make it my primary drive and get a new 1000gb WD drive as e:.

That worked for about a week then I had the same problem. I then assumed that I picked the wrong hard drive and installed the 500gb WD as the primary and the 1000gb WD as e:

Again this worked for a little while then the freezing happened again. The cpu is not over heating and I've checked the ram and video card. Sometimes when it freezes I can still move the mouse but cant click on anything.

I'm sick of playing roulette with my drives. Only the samsung had bad sectors but the problem continues when its not plugged in.

I am assuming there is not a problem with the new drive.

Trying to pinpoint this problem is driving me nuts, any suggestions are welcomed! thanks!

Probably nothing to with the drives.
What was the last hardware or software you added before the freezing trouble started.
It could be memory issues such as ram failing or software issues.
Reload the OS then gradually reload your other software and drivers one at a time, just in case it could be a software compatibility issue.

thanks mate, I should of mentioned that I've done 5 wipes of windows which hasnt helped.

today after it frozen I switched it on with a '3rd master drive error' (bios) and then os not found but then when I reset it booted fine and frozen 5 hours later

One more long shot on the hardware side is to swap the PSU.
Another option to check is go through your BIOS settings and check them carefully as this can have a great impact on your computer.
