Hard drive gone bad, trying to revive it

My hard drive failed and suddenly wouldn't boot. So I went ahead and hooked it up as a slave drive, and external, but cant access it. Its been looked at using dos and linux, and appears to be in good shape, and physically accessible, however, it is not logically accessible (ie. the computer wont read from it).

Anyone know a way around this, maybe some software that can physically access the drives to get data off, or something like that?
 
There are specialist forms who specialise in this sort of thing I think, as long as the HDD is not damaged phyiscally beyond repair they may be able to extract your data.
