Hard drive half ful??

Hello everyone, I need some help please. I just built a new 'puter and it seems something is up. I'll start by listing what I have here:

Asus A8N-E mobo
Seagate 250 gb SATA HD 8mb cache
AMD Athlon 4000+ cpu
OCZ 512 x 2 ram
Asus Nvidia 6600 silencer 256 mb vid card
Lite-on DVD burner and dvd rom
ect. ect.
I'm running XP Pro and have just basic software, drivers, and windows updates installed, everything seems to run smooth and fast.

My question is, when I check the properties on the hard drive (the little pie chart) it says that I'm using 110 gigs??? How is this even possible?? I don't think there is any way I can be using that much space with just the basics installed.
Does anybody know what's up?? Please advise.
 
hi windows xp will only recognize 127gb of hard disk what you have to do is
create a partition to do this right click my computer click on manage and then on disk management you will see your hard disk there the 110gb should say healthy system and the remainder will be unallocated you have to format
the unallocated then this will be given a diffrent drive letter and you will be able to use it i use mine just to install games on good luck

if you have upgrade to window sp 2 do that. sp2 sees bigger hdd
 
I believe that SP1 solved the 127GB limit problem. That doesn't explain the system reporting 110GB used, though.

Like Hairy_Lee suggested, try running scandisk and see if that fixes it. Also, there may be some temp files left over from the install that weren't removed. I saw a computer once where the user fixed the Swap File size and added an extra zero, taking up nearly a third of his hard drive for swap space. It slowed the computer down, big time, as well.
