hard drive issue

I am using an Asus P5W DH Deluxe with a 500gb sata drive which contains my OS. I purchased a 1T sata drive for extra storage. At this point in time, I do not wish to run a RAID. When I connect the 2nd hard drive, however, the system doesn't detect any of the hard drives; but if I unplug the 2nd drive, the system boots up. I suspect my problem is withing the Bios settings, I'm just having a little trouble pin pointing it. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
 
could maybe be because its new unformatted drive, connect both the drives and on startup hold tap f2, go into bios and check the boot order make sure you os drive is first boot, and check that it has detected the tb drive in the bios, save changes and exit.

then let it boot up and if you cant see the drive in my computer, go to start, computer and right click it, select manage, then go to disk management and you should see it there, format the whole drive to ntfs file system.
