Hard Drive Issues

I just bought a Western Digital 500gb (WD5000AAKS) hard drive and put it in my desktop for extra storage. All of the wires are securely plugged in and the comp will tell me how much space is on it, and that it exists, but it is not viewable in the "My Computer" area, which is where we need it to be : \ Can anyone help me out here?

You have to go to Disk Management to Partition and format it. Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Click on Disk Management on the left and the new drive will show up on the lower right- right click on it and partition and format.
