Hard drive keeps disappearing

Hello,

My old hard drive recently failed. So I backed up all my data on a new hard drive I bought and sent the old one back for a replacement.

The drives both appear to work fine. But the strange thing is the replacement hard drive (Well its partitions) disappear completely from My Computer and the Disk Management and become totally unaccessible sometimes until I reboot the computer.

What may be causing this?

Edit: The boot partition is stored on the other hard drive so it does not cause windows to fail or anything like that.

Thanks,

Tom

Are you sure that the drives are connected properly? The first port of call for something like this is check to see if you have any loose connections. Then you should listen out for any weird hard drive noise which is usually indicative of a dying hard drive. Does ALL the partition from the same Physical drive keep disappearing? If so, then it may be your drive dying.

I just got the hard drive though. Yes, all the partitions from the same Physical Drive disappear. Ill check the cables etc. now.
