Hard drive noise?

Sorry if this is noob :o

So I bought a new 320gb HDD for my laptop the other day, and I've noticed that when it's really being used it makes sort of a clicking sound. Whats interesting is it doesn't sound exactly like my other laptop hard drive, which I know is dying. I've also never owned a laptop hard drive this big, is this just normal for large capacity 2.5" drives?

I need to know, so I can send it back to newegg to get a new one.

Are you sure? I thought it would make the noise regardless of whether it was being accessed if it was dying. Is there a way to test it? I mean I dont wanna send it back if it's just how this thing sounds.

the hard drive should not be making clicking noise period. it means that something inside the hard drive is hitting everytime it makes a rotation. and you cant fix it by opening it up cuz then you just ruined the harddrive. so just send it back.

now since you are saying its "sort of a clicking noise" if it is a clear clicking noise then it is definitly messed up. large laptop harddrives do make a lot of noise when accessed but they shouldnt make a clicking noise when accessed.

No, it is not a distinct "click". It's just a noise similar to a click, I just didn't know any other way to explain it. I know for a fact it's not every rotation. I have a dying hard drive, it's got a constant click every couple minutes, this is different, it only happens when the hdd indicator really lights up, and it sounds less like a click. This sounds more like the sound old hard drives used to make, only it only happens when really being pushed.
