Hard drive partition

Does anyone know if a partition would help protect one part of the hard drive from viruses? Or have it so the computer only accesses the backup partition of the hard drive when I manually back something up on it?

I basically need a hard drive for a backup. From what I hear, externals are only beneficial because they are not constantly connected to the computer so they have a lower risk of failure and they do not get viruses as often. If there any way to mimic this in an internal hard drive?

viruses usually only nest in the os part but some get into all types of files and places.
anyway you can use acronis disk manager to make a disk hidden and if you to backup just unhide it again. or you can assign a drive letter if you the disk and remove the driver letter afterwards.

Vipernitrox while that sounds good I've seen repair partitions that were infected with virus on some really bad systems. Kookooshortman55 I think you need to just pony up $20 (US currency) and get an external drive case. That is the best solution for back up.

Well I was actually looking at the Firewire/USB externals so I don't think I could buy an internal then. I'm running an upgraded $300 HP, my computer doesn't have all the fancy ports and whatnot haha. I don't have an eSATA
