I have tried to get my hard drive working on two brand new intel motherboards. When the hard drive is plugged into the ide ports it will not power up but if i unplug the cable it will?? Anyone have any ideas i am wracking my brain here and i built 7 of these already jsut confused on if i am missing something...

There are three possibilities.

The drive is no good <--- That's my bet without seeing it
The cable is no good
The cable is on backwards

Check all the pins on the hard drive if one of them is slightly bent or not making full contact it can cause the drive not to spin up. Also just like SirKenin was saying the drive could be bad as well how old is it? If its still under warranty send it in. If its somewhat new check on the manufacturers site and see if its still under warranty with them.

I tried 3 different hard drives 2 different cables and it was all hooked up right. I just find it odd that it happens to both intel boards. All i am trying to get working here are brand new so not sure.
