Hard drive problem

Hello, Me Being a n00b :D I haven't been able to figure this out, you see I have a Maxtor 100 gb SATA HD and a simple IDE HD (same company) Now the SATA HD is the mastor (yet I'm not to sure how to set it with jumber's) and my IDE is just an empty HD to place movies and what not in it. Now the problem is my computer likes to start up thinking the IDE is the mastor, but it soon learn's that their is a file missing (I guess because I don't have an OS on it) so it will not go any ferther, It doesn't even notice the SATA. I've been able to get by this by hitting F8 and starting with the SATA but If I miss my chance to do that I have to restart and try again, very bad for my computer! I've checked my bios but I cannot find what I need their. So I've resorted to just unpluging the IDE and forgetting about using it. The thing is I don't want to put an OS on it because its quite small, I can't even put XP on it! So if you can help me that would be GREAT!! thanks alot!!

btw I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe MoBo if that helps

if you need any more info just e-mail me I'll put my addy in my profile after I've posted this.

Thanks again

With SATA driver there are no jumper settings to worry about, only with IDE. Because you only have one IDE drive, that is unlikely to affect.

I am guessing your problem is related to the boot sequence. There should be an option to set the boot sequence somewhere. You need to select your SATA drive as the first drive to boot from.

Edit: I've had a look at pictures of your bios, and i can tell you it should be the first option in the 'boot' tab, namely 'boot device priority'.
