Hard Drive Problem

The other day I decided to switch the hard drives in my computer and try to run on the other one b/c i've done it before and i thought i'd try it again with this one. However, when i hooked it up to the cpu and tried running it, I come to a black screen and it says something... and then it says "Windows will now restart... hit any key". Everytime I hit the key it'll repeat this process. It's starting to aggrivate me b/c I don't know what the problem is. I'm about to hook it up again to see what the writing says so I can post it on here and get feedback. All suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Well on this hard drive its windows xp but on the other one it's windows95. i tried using the windows xp install disk on the win95 HD and it said i have to use win98 or lower. Here's the message I'm receiving...

"Cannot find SYSTEM.INI

You need to run Windows setup again to install the file.

Press any key to continue."

...Is there anyway that I can get that back without using the windows disk because I don't have one available to me?

Boot to your XP cd, All that is too much to type, Im lazy!

Perform a Repair Install by following the step by step below.
  1. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below
  2. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft
Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
This is the option you want to enable to proceed to the Repair Install.
  3. To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

For the Repair Install do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press
R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R".
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

  4. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
  5. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
  6. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, read this Warning!!
  7. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

I know how to reinstall Windows XP with the disc... the only problem is that the hard drive wont accept anything over Windows98. I already have a new solutioon to solving the problem. If that doesn't work then I'll ask for more suggestions. Thanks for your input though.
