hard drive problem

every time windows boots up it checks my second hard drive for bad clusters is there any way of stopping windows doing this as it is very anoying everytime i boot up
maybe their is a problem with the drive but i only store mp3 files on it but windows checks them all for bad clusters can i stop this .

windows only seems to check the drive when i have tranfered files from master drive to slave is there any reason for this if i download files to the second drive windows does not check the disk.

if i let it run it would take hours as it seem to replace every file but i dont understand why and now it wants to check both drives every time it boots up

finaly let the file checker complete but when i reboot it checks the drive again

1. Check that SMART doesnt say something like "BAD"
2. What OS are us using?

win xp but i think the hd has bad sectors.
checked drive with disk checker it wanted 16hrs to recover bad sectors that was just 2% of the dik checked.
so i think its time for a new drive.
