Hard Drive Problems - Need Help

Hi All,

I am not too sure about what can be done here but I thought I would ask anyway,

I have a 320GB Seagate IDE hard drive that has been working fine for the last few weeks. Suddenly now, when I start up the machine it seems to freeze on the post screen (think thats what its called anyway, the one with the bios checks)

Thanks to trial and error I have found out that its the hard drive that is causing this. I have tried to format the drive and it does not seem possible, I have tried hot swapping whilst windows is booted and seeing if I can format that way but again nothing. Finally, I have tried to use the program called "Ultimate Boot CD" to format it with seagates own tools however that does not work either, as the program tells me that it writing to the MBR is timing out.

I am confused...

what can I do?

I have even tried to book Ubuntu and format under linux, that does not work as the linux boot progress tells me that my IDE drive has timed out.

Help

Hi Scott
If you have a second computer you could try attaching your hard drive as a slave.
Otherwise, try to obtain Linux Puppy. It's an 80MB live OS that runs from CD. From there you can run Gparted, which should see your harddrive.
Hope this helps

Hi,

I have tried that and it has still not worked,

I tell you what is strange, when I switch on the PC it seems to stall on the post screen for 15 seconds, if I do not have the hard drive in question attached it flys past this screen. Does this sound like anything that can be solved?

Thanks
