Hard Drive questions-easy

I have an emachines with an 80 gig hard drive that I would like to add to. It is running windows xp. My questions is do I need to load XP onto the new hard drive and get a new serial number, or is their a way to set it the new drive as slave and let XP set things up for me?

you set the new drive to slave (it should have instructions how to do this) and plug it in and format, you don't need an OS on every drive, only your master boot disk/drive.
