Hard Drive Says Nearly Full

My 60 gig hard drive says it's at around 54 gigs full but when I go into the hard drive it only shows me 17 gigs of information? Does anyone know were the extra 37 gigs are?

Run a scan disk on it... Right click, properties, tool, scan
