over the past couple years my hard drive space continually goes down. every month or so i delete a bunch of stuff. by right clicking on folders and clicking on properties i calculated the following:

C:\WINDOWS : 6.32 GB
C:\Documents and Settings : 9.34 GB
C:\Program Files : 8.03 GB
C:\[Everything Else] : 1.58 GB
Pagefile for C Drive: .0488 GB
Total: 25.3188 GB

C Drive Total Size: 32.5 GB
Free Space: .171875 GB

why are there over 7gb unaccounted for?

Download: CCleaner (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Run the installer, and uncheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar (unless you want Yahoo toolbar).
Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows [tab]
The following should be selected by default, if not, please select:
CCleanerA.png

Next: click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit

could this really be the root of my problem? i recently deleted all my temp files.
if i run this program is there a chance that it would delete something important?
could the files that this program deletes really be taking up 7gb on my hd?

im thinking about backing up my files on my external hard drive, reformatting my c drive and reinstalling windows. would that give me my hard drive space back? are there any free programs that make backing up a hard drive onto another drive easy?
