Hard Drive Upgrade

I currently have a ATA/66 hard drive on a old pentium 3 gateway, and I was wondering if I could upgrade to ATA/100 or ATA/133 hard drive?

i think even if you got an ATA133 7200RPM drive, your actual CPU/RAM would be the bottleneck and you wouldn't notice any difference (unless this is like a 1+GHz P3) How fast is your actual processor? and what type of RAM does it use. I notice no difference between 5400 and 7200RPM drives on my P3 866MHz 512MB PC100...just bcuz the HDD is faster than the rest of my components lol.

I am not really trying to upgrade speed as much as I am just trying to upgrade the size. The current one is only 10.2 gig. I was wondering if I could get a ata/133 based hard drive with over 100 gigs and still be compatible with my system.

oh ok...if speed is no issue then no worries in that area. the only problem is we have no idea what systme you are running. what you need to do is figure out what motherboard model/make you have. get that and post it up here and i/someone can tell you what kind of IDE controller it uses and the fastest ATA device it will support. Also on older mobo's it might not be possible to run a single 100GB+ drive, they have limits of GB's per IDE Channel so you might have to partition it. but i do believe it is most likely possible for you to run a single 100GB drive, it just depends on your mobo as to the speed of the drive.
