Hard drive with Windows install won't mount from enclosure

Hi, this is my first time coming to this forum. I hope you guys can help me out. I'm helping my friend fix his Windows XP install. It's riddled with viruses, so I took the hard drive out of his computer and I put it into an enclosure and I tried to plug it into my computer so I could do virus scans and such, but the drive won't mount in XP, OS X, or Ubuntu. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do about it?

Thanks!

If it won't mount in anything, it's almost certainly a hardware issues. Have you tried connecting it directly to your computer. Also, if it's IDE, have you confirmed it's set to Master?

Thanks for the reply.

I've been trying to connect it through the enclosure's USB cable. I'm not sure if it's IDE. Does it sound like the problem is with the enclosure or the hard drive?

probebly something to do with your bios. you need to tell the order in which it boots things, its probelbly looking at your internal hardrives looking to boot it from there, and not looking at the usbs

Try This...

open up your computer case and plug the power cable in and the SATA or IDE cable in... The IDE cable in the big flat one...

I appreciate your responses, but I'm using a Macbook Pro as the machine to work with. I don't want to boot from this drive, I just want to run some virus scans when I'm booted into Windows from my computer.
