Hard drive wont boot up on differnet compute

i am trying to boot from a hard drive out of my old compaq that i put into a dell that has no operating system
on it. my compaq drive has XP black on it. i set the compaq to master and the other to slave. when i boot up it wont start. am i doing something wrong?

no, i have a second in there too with nothing on it. theyre both western digital. the 1 i want to work is a 40gig and the other is a 350 gig. i set the 40 to master and 350 to slave and it wont boot up. the 40 gig has XP black on it.

It occurs to me that XP Black Edition is a hacked up version of XP with some other pirated software included.
