Hard Drive won't boot

Ok so I just got my new system in parts from newegg I assembled everything and it all went well until I noticed that the hard drive was just making this clicking noise on boot. It's a WD740 74GB raptor. When I go into the bios settings and check the drive configurations, it comes up as a WD800BB 0.0GB on my SATA0 port. When I try and load Win2000, I get
"Disk I/O error Status: 00002001"
I've been quite gentle with it and am certain it wasn't damaged here, and it appeared to be packed quite well, so as far as I know it's not damaged. I don't have another motherboard with sata so I can't check it that way. Is there anything else I can do/try?

maybe you need to partition or format it. im not sure if it comes preformated/partitioned its just something that might be wrong that you might want to look into

Problem is that I my drive isn't recognized so I can't even get to the stage under which you partition the disk. In addition my drive isn't, or at least shouldn't be partioned as it's brand new.

i had a similar problem before, i had a 200GB maxtor sata hard drive and the computer wouldnt recognize it when i tried to install xp. What i had to do was reset the bios by using the Clear CMOS jumper (refer to your manual to do this). If that doesnt work, then the HD was probably DOA. Byt he way, do you have an ABIT motherboard?
