Hi, I have an IDE hard drive, windows XP.
Is it possible to take the hard drive from one computer with all the information on it and connect it up to another computer also IDE xp windows, using it as a slave drive / secondary drive and not loose all the information on it?

Thanks

Yeah, you just can't boot to this drive in a different system but you can set up as slave and access the data on it.

i just bought a new hard drive for my laptop, but when i put it in my computer wont start!!! what should i do! need help.. BAD!!

You need to reinstall windows. Hard drives don't come with windows on it already.

Do you have the windows reinstall cd? Either press ctrl-alt-del which will reboot the system or press and hold the power button to shut it off.

yeah i have a windows 7 home prem which i bought a couple of months ago. but if i turn the computer off then whats the point?

Put the windows 7 dvd into the drive, reboot the machine. You may have to change the boot order in the bios to boot to cd first. However, how much memory is installed in the laptop? Does the laptop have a dvd drive? Windows 7 is a dvd not cd.

It's gonna be kind of hard to clone a laptop hard drive unless your laptop has a second hard drive bay or you will need a usb to laptop IDE adapter.

laptop comes with a 160gb hdd, yeah it has a dvd drive. but i checked out a couple of videos, many are cloning their hard drive. how does that work?

All cloning does is take the original hard drive and copying it to the new drive. But like I said its harder to do with a laptop than a desktop hard drive. You either have to have a second hard drive bay or an adapter to hook up the second hard drive.

Yes. If you aren't sure what you are doing, you might want to ask a computer savvy friend to help you.

yeah i guess. i got my hands on a casing for my new hard drive with usb cable and stuff. so i hope i will be able to get it to work.
