Hard to find Socket 939 X2

Why is it difficult to find good selections for the Athlon 64 X2 socket 939 processors? For example: Newegg only has 3 and they are all X2 4600+.

I have a socket 939 motherboard right now and I'm finding my A64 3500+ to be a bit slow. I am confused on what to do, cause it will cost alot to upgrade to AM2 or LGA775 (for C2D). I would have to replace the RAM, motherboard, and processor. Should I get the X2 4600+ or what should I do? Will AM2 and C2D be short-lived (should I wait)?

It's hard to find it because it's old. People has moved onto Am2 and socket 939 is being phased out. If you have the money, then go for the C2D, as it is the much better performer.

Old? I see that newegg has P4 processors still in stock. I built my mom a computer with a P4 540J processor before the A64 X2 series even came out. I just thought that the 939 X2 would be around for a while and I could upgrade like everybody else. But now they are rare. :(

What are you looking to spend on the cpu? The x2 4600+ would be a great upgrade. Though you could always get a 3800+ or 4200+ and overclock it. ;)

Well the 4600 is $230 on newegg (not even in stock right now though). And they only have the 4600. I try to buy every component from newegg but maybe for this I could get it some other place. Any suggestions?

I will definitely be overclocking.

Found this http://www.compudirect.com/cgi-bin/product_view.cgi?CP_03-100&pricegrab&Component
but the 4600 at newegg is a way better deal if it was in stock
