harddrive question/help

i recently bought a new computer and the specs showed that it was a 360GB harddrive. When i hooked it up and checked the specs in "my computer" i noticed that the harddrive is only 325GB. I just wanted to know if this is normal and/or should i exchange it. please help...im sort of a noob :( .

its normal because the formatted space is less that the actual amount and there is prob backup info on the partition that isnt showing up, assuming you bought from a 1st party
 
Hard Drive makers kind of scam you on this one. They refer to as a GB as 1000 megabytes and 1 megabyte as 1000 kilobytes and so on, but going by the true 1024 bytes in a kilobyte and up, this could lead to your missing space. On a 20 GB harddrive there's only something around 18GB or something like that.

Yea its normal. Dont worrie.

This is why theres "1. 1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less."all over apple product boxes
 
one reason could be that the BIOS on the motherboard does not support a 360GB HDD, and it's only reading to it's maximum which could be in this case upto 325GB. Make sure that the BIOS supports up to 360GB drives. if not, see if there is a BIOS update from the manufacturer's website for the motheboard you have.

uh i dont think that this is the problem, it is just simply as mentioned above several times.

my '80' gig HDD has only 75.
 
True, you are probably right guy's. It's just that i came across a prob like this a while ago and it was the BIOS. In this case it's probably a different situation.
