I ordered a new harddrive for my old computer and it just won't work but the strange thing is when I put my old harddrive into it it boots just fine the other one the computer just won't read

no I can't even get to the installation part since it says harddrive is not detected for the new harddrive I bought

Look in your manual, do you have the jumpers set right?
Also, what BIOS version do you have?

IDE or SATA? Jumpers right? Is it even configured in the BIOS? Have you checked computer management to assign a drive letter/partition/format it?

Its ide and the cables and everything has been setup but I don't know what you mean has it been cofigured in the bios

Wonder: Is your "old" computer like ATA33/66 and the HDD is ATA100... if its dead then it wouldnt be spinning, or would be making funny noises. ifit doesnt start up at all then its dead. put your old HDD in and put the new one in as a slave. see what happens
