Hi everyone...im hoping someone can help me please. I have a IBM thinkpad laptop t42 type 2373. I bought a new 80gig hd. When I go to install xp, it says, can't detected hd. I took it out and intialized it on another computer, brought it back and tried again and still xp doesn't dectect the hd. I'm wondering if :rolleyes:its a driver on the mother that doesn't dectect it, cause xp should have the driver with it.
Any help would be apreciated. Pleaseee...the computer is for my kids and they are hounding me to fix it.
Thanks guys...
take care

Hmm....you're sure the drive is in the laptop correctly? If I recall, the drive goes face up in the caddy, then you flip the drive upside down to get it in the machine (sticker facing down).

yup...im pretty sure its the drive controller i need for the drive...i find alot of sata controller drivers but not pata\ide controller drivers

That's because Windows has the driver already and you don't need a separate one for IDE drives.

What caused you to replace the hard drive in the first place? Because if the machine isn't seeing the drive I'd guess there is a controller failure.

the computer was bought without the hd....I know xp should have the drivers..thats why im alittle puzzled...i have two of the exact laptops..and the same with both of them...if i had a floppy i would beable to add drivers on bootup...im trying to slipstream the drivers into xp but Im not sure if i have the right controller drivers..if you can help me with finding the drivers...i could test it...

The thing is, you don't need drivers!

Double check the BIOS settings. There might be something screwed up in the BIOS.

Im starting to think your right...for the life of me i can't get this laptop to see the drive. I look in the bios and there is absolutly nothing i can change...or something im not seeing...im at a loss here....

And you're positive the drive is in the computer the correct way?

Sounds like the drive isnt in right/ the IDE controller is disabled in the bios/ / both laptops have bad IDE controllers.

Does the drive show up in the bios?
