Hardrive Problem! HELP

I had some errors (bad sectors) on a hard drive with WIN 98 OS. I ran the scandisk program and tried to repair them, but after few failed attempts (the program would just stop and not continue the diskcheck/repair, and HDD would make knocking sounds every two seconds) it got even worse.
Now the hard drive does not show in the boot menu or in BIOS, like it isn't connected at all.
Can the hardrive be saved? It contains some important documents that should not be lost....
What can I do? Any suggestions?

It doesn't sound like there's anything you can do about saving your hard drive, if bios was reading it you could format and possibly save the drive, but the information would still be gone. As far as the data, if you're lucky another system might get another read out of it but this is unlikely. There are companies who will take your dead hard drive and retrieve the information off them, but it's expensive, like a couple hundred dollars I think.

I would say buy a new one.. 30-40gb and use it as a master. Try to plug in the old HD as a Slave and get the info back... If it dont work Try partition magic, it can fix things aswell.... Good luck.
