hello all,
I have been trying to figure out why my laptop is running at near 100% cpu all the time.

I have an HP 6910p with 2gb ram, 160gb hdd, and no matter what I do i cannot get it to run right.

This is not a windows issue because i have reformatted, and even run a linux live cd with the same issue.

I found an update for the bios and still having the same issue. I bought the laptop on ebay and it worked great for about 2+ months.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Open up taskmanager (Ctrl + shift + esc on Windows Vista and above) and go to the processes tab. Click the CPU column so the processes using the most CPU are at the top of the list, that should give you an idea.

Could be there's something wrong with the BIOS clock speeds though, but those shouldn't be adjustable on a laptop.

I hate to bump this tread, but the issue had something to do with the ac power supply. Whenever I would run on battery the laptop would run fine. I purchased a new ac power supply and the laptop worked perfect for about 6 months until I sold it. Hopefully this may help someone in the future.

With those machines, if you use a PSU with a lower voltage or amperage, it will run super slow. Discovered this back when I used to sell those models refurbished.
