Hi, I've searched extensively for a solution to my problem, but I've found all kinds of conflicting suggestions. So i come here in hope of enlightenment.
My system:
Asus P7P55 LX iP55
Kingston 2x2GB DDR3 PC10666 CL9.0
Radeon HD5850
Intel Core i7 860 2.80GHz
Samsung 1TB SATA300 32MB, HD103SJ
It's a 2,5 year old system that i recently decided could do with some upgrades. I decided the RAM and HD were prime candidates for that. In time i will probably get a solid state drive, but i decided to get started on some more memory. I bought Corsair Vengeance (2x 4 GB) DDR3-RAM 1600 MHz 9-9-9-24, which should be fully compatible with my system. But now that i've installed them, both my BIOS and windows show only 4gb of available memory.
-I've updated my BIOS.
-I've swapped the new RAMS to see if one is broken.
-I've looked at my CPU for damaged/bent pins.
All of this still results in half the memory not being able to be used. I have now tried another thing, which is put back the old 2x2 RAMs, and adding the 2x4. Now i have 6gb of available memory.
As the title states, half of the RAM installed is 'hardware reserved' when i look in resource manager. Which to me means, " i can see its there but i cant use it".
Is there anything else i can look for or try to fix this? I have to admit that i have no experience with CPU repair, so if a pin is damaged in some way i might easily miss it. But how could there suddenly be no contact, all i did was swap some RAM. Why could my comp see the 2x2 as 4, but not the 2x4 as 8?
Anyone?
