I had an unknown problem and it said I have to fix windows by inserting my windows disk. Yet when i boot from a cd and when the blue windows setup page was loading, it came up with a message that said my NTFS is corrupt or it says dmboot.sys is corrupt or missing. I have read some places that I can fix it in Windows Recovery Console, but I can't get to it. It comes up with those messages before I get to the options menu in windows install loader. What can do? thanks.

please post if you can the exact error its giving and if any addresses are given sometimes this is caused by hardware or memory problems as well..

i was going to suggest to use the recovery console, did u change the BIOS and have it boot from CD, not the hard drive?

by the way im from west chester, like 15 minutes from u.

It says The file dmboot.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue. When u hit a key it says the setup failed. Press any key to restart your computer. And it keeps loopy this error everytime.

Also sometimes it will say The file ntfs.sys is corrupted. Press any key. And the same thing happens

I think your ram went bad cause i bought new ram for my new computer and i couldnt install XP so i had to use my old ram and i could install xp on there.

I had the problem with my ram but i fixed it by downclocking it from 800 to 667 and it ran fine. But i did always have little problems, the biggest was that i could never download windows updates.

You might have to up the voltage of the ram to but dont hold me to that i would wait and see if that is actually what you need to do.

Ok actually I pulled a stick on my dual channel ram and it is working. I think I have a one bad stick of my dual channel.

yea either the ram is bad or the channel is bad they tend to have a issue with overclocking sometimes they can even fry the channel
