ok no matter what i do, i cant get my crt hppavillion m70 monitor to stop flickering, its almost like what you get when you film a television with a camera, and you get that flickering, except this are much thinner and not as clear. i AM having some trouble with heating, because this thing sits in a very tight space, but even when i turn it off for long periods sometimes it still flickers... (oh and i dont actually think its my monitor sometimes my lcd hp monitor does it too.

Right click on the desktop > properties > settings > advanced > Monitor

raise the hertz rate to the highest it will go, that might fix the problem.

On the lcd type and probably the crt there you can also try lowering it down if it isn't too low already. Generally a flickering is seen when the settings are up high and need to be lowered a little. If you are at 1280x1024 try the 60-70 range. How old is the monitor itself?

oh i see. i even tried turningthe settings up a little bit, but nothins seemed to happen. you are correct in your assumption that i am using 1280/1024, but even when i played age of empires the screen flickered, even though i have age of empires set to 1024/768... so are you ruling out heating as he problem? that would be a relief

oh and the monitor is, well, lets just call it used lol. i got it for free, there is no physical damage at all, but a long time ago it was used by some guy in a navy office and was virtually never turned off... thats pretty much all i know about it

Non polarized outlets and a shaky supply? The lower end supplies put into prebuilt systems are not always that well filtered. You also have to take a look at the video card that came along with that model HP. You seem to be seeing the worst while gaming. As far as "noise" you can find better surge protection with filtering there on some power strips.

ok i hate to say it but the flickering has gotten worse then ever. there have been a few freezings, and the most worrysome thing is, THIS IS A NEW COMPUTER!!! something new im getting alot of on the screen is the whole screen edges look like they are constantly resizing themselves, like it moves, up down, stretch by a few pixels out, then shrink in, and i have no clue why!

EDIT: ok im deleting that post before i dont think its he;ping anyone

ok nobody post here. i have my problem: bad wirig coming from my monitor... it was pulled very taught and i guess after awhile that pulled one of the cords or something, but now its not taught and it stopped wavering.
