Have I been totally shafted?

Hey guys,

Some of you may remember me from my other thread.

The Dell XPS 720 I bought off eBay for an excessive amount just arrived. I take it is uses a standard power cable?

Plugged it in, lights come on, makes a whir, nothing on the screen!

Any ideas?

Tried a different monitor or tried using the monitor you are trying to use with another PC?

Yeah have you tried reseating the graphics card in the XPS? May have come lose during postage.

Best to remove it completely and then put it back in again. Make sure the 6 pin PCI Express power connector is also plugged into the card properly.

Hey guys,

Bingo bongo!

The graphics card was not even close! The metal bit (where the monitor plugs are) that was meant to sit flush with the back of the case was all bent and the card was way forward!

I suspect this character put back the original card after he sold another one separately as he said in his listing on eBay. Obviously couldn't be asked to put it back properly...

You guys are true masters!

I'm in the UK but can't see any switch on the back of the PSU. Seems to start okay though?

If there isn't a switch then it is probably auto sensing the correct value. Nothing to worry about. Glad to hear you got it working!

Yeah it's best to remove things like graphics cards if you're planning on posting a PC because this usually happens in the end. Pleased it's working now though.

And about the power supply, yes it probably automatically selects the correct voltage etc to use.
