Have router...need DSL modem. Recommendations?

Hi guys,

So I just moved into a new place and unfortunately the only internet I can get here is 10 meg DSL. The local ISP offers DSL modems for rent for $40 but I figure for that much I should just buy my own (good/bad idea?). Never have owned DSL, I'm pretty lost as to what kind I should buy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice, affordable and reliable DSL modem?

And this may be a stupid question but, they don't make DSL/cable modem combo's do they? Just trying to think ahead, it'd be great if I wouldn't have to rent/buy a cable modem if I get cable in the future.

Thanks guys.

Who is your dsl provider? We would have to check to see what modems they support.

Call them and see what modems they support and give us the model numbers. I just looked on their website and you have to call them to find out what they support.

So...I've decided to go with a different ISP instead. I decided to go with CenturyLink. When I talked to the representative on the phone she said that any DSL modem should work. I'm going to give their tech support a call just to make sure that this is the actual case but assuming that it is...can you recommend any reliable and affordable DSL modems?

Also, would any old phone cable work? Looking at buying this one:

Would you not recommend just buying a standalone modem? I already have my Vizio router that I was planning on using and have had no problems with.

Do you have any recommendations? A local ISP sells one for $40 that I might try pick up to see if it works (if it doesn't I'll just return it). If that doesn't work out then I'll head to Walmart probably.
