So I brought Need For Speed Shift last night and it was so cool that on a whim I went online with my credit card lol and brought a Genius Wheel and pedals...

Now they are being delivered tomorrow but I was thinking.. I know back in the day I had my computer hooked up to my TV so that we could play music videos at parties instead of just mp3's...

So my question is.... Would I be able to play Need For Speed while sitting on my lazy boy in front of my TV using the wheel and pedals....

So it would be going through S-Video out on my 4890 and also a lineout into one of my TV's AV channels right?

I have a massive old rear projection TV (34") its huge, what sort of resolution would I be looking at? Ive never run games onto a tv before from my computer so dont really know.

Does all this sound like it would work?

Any ideas?

640 by 480 is not a very spectacular resolution to play at. I say go for it and see how you like it. Also just make sure your audio is on the same input as the S-Video is and you should be good.
 
Man that low... On the huge screen that would look ass....

I might wiring it up just to see though... Although Ive been looking around and s-video cable is really expensive... Like really lol.

I dont get that part. Ill be running the sound from my motherboard onboard sound into the AV1 channel that I plug the S-Video into right?
 
Yes, I misread your first post.

You could try to force AA and all the other features in Catalyst Control Center. It will help the picture a bit. It's not that bad when playing some games. Just like if you had an Xbox or PS3 hooked up to a TV. Definitely playable , it's just not going to be good as an LCD.
 
Depending on the age/model....some rear projections may be 720p,or even 1080p(the more expensive ones) but it depends on the model.

You seem to know what you need... S-Video or S-Video to RCA (depending on your TV's inputs and such) then line-out to RCA.

Seeing as you say it's old, it's most certainly SD. The actual resolution is 720x480. Your card probably supports higher resolutions, which would be fine, but it'd all be converted down to 720x480 in the end. Probably best to simply fiddle around with the resolutions and see what YOU think looks best.

Good news though, at such a low resolution, you could probably really max out the quality settings without any performance issues. Depending how far you are from the TV, it'd probably look pretty darn good ;)

(speaking of which, I need to pull out my old steering wheel now and try Shift) :)
 
Well my rig can max the game on my LCD as well so haha no constellation prize there lol..

Yeah well sitting back it should be fine Im thinking, Like when I use to run music videos through my tv it didnt look all that bad...

The only cable I could track down in NZ, was 3m for 65 bucks lol and Ill need at least two, then a adapter into RCA
 
Why would you need two? Just for the length? Because obviously you'd need a....well...I shouldn't say what we called them back in Mass Media, but they had female to female plugs...

Anyway, Svideo shouldn't be that expensive. Have you looked around online because I'm SURE you can find them for less. heck I'd give you one if you lived in NC... Or as an alternative, if you can find an RCA cable, the quality would be pretty similar. Yes, it would be worse, but there's a point you probably wouldn't notice a difference :P
 
Lol you know Im so stupid..... I have a little adapter that came with the card.... That makes s video into rca lol and Rca cables are much cheaper lol.....

So update, came home tonight and played NFS Shift with the wheel (which I got today surprisingly) one problem, the game now um shudders every few seconds now, when you unplug the wheel it runs fine again..

Any ideas on how to fix this?
