Im using an EXTERNAL DVD DRIVE. The Bios doesnt have a bootable USB DEVICE option. I tried Installing Vista with the External DVD Drive from Run>> E:/Setup.exe and once it got to 100% Copying files I got this error.

I am going to assume I get this error because I am trying to install Windows, IN Windows... But I dont know how I can go about Installing vista on this computer with this external dvd drive.

Its a dell optiplex sx260

Anyone have any ideas how I could get this to run booting from USB DEVICE? I upgrading to the latest bios AO3.. No dice.

What's wrong with the onboard CD/DVD drive?

It's only a CD-ROM, no DVD. It uses a Slim drive IDE, It's hard enough to find one. My laptop uses a SATA I could of baught an adapted but it doesn't use a ribbon to connect. You just pop it in. I dont know if they sell ones that arent a SATA to IDE non ribbon converters.

I wouldn't be running Aero, I have seen SX260 running Vista before. This SX260 has been mildly upgraded too. Besides the CDROM

i know there are ways to make boot cds that allow booting from usb. but for windows im unsure i know you can do it for different linux versions, what about a bios update is there one sometimes the update will allow booting from usb, how about a network install. Or like it was mentioned earlier get an ide dvd drive and try that, open up the case, and connect the drive like that for the install atleast. but to me it doesnt seem like vista will run all that great. vista didnt run that great with my old p4 lga775 setup.
