Having problems getting to the BIOS

I just bought a new computer a few days ago. Its a Emachines H5082.
P4 3.0G, 512mb DDR2 ,160 gig HD, ATI Radeon Xpress 200. I put in my old soundblaster live card but windows vista can't use it, and then I added my old 80gig hard drive but I can't get to the BIOS. IS there a way my computer will recognise I have it? When i try to go to the BIOS my computer screen turns on and off a few times then my comp just starts up windows. Can anyone help me out?

You sure you're hitting the right key, and that your keyboard is active during that time? Sounds like it's just not detecting the correct key press, or something.

This is what emachine claims
During the restart, press and hold the
F1 key. The main menu of the BIOS Setup utility

opens

Instead of holding it, try hitting it repeatedly like a madman continuously right after you start up the machine. That might work

You have got to Continually TAP IT, not hold it down, i could of sworn the button was DELETE, not F1....
