ok so, i reformatted my hardrive, and reinstalled XP profesional. it has been great, i was updating windows and getting all my security updates ect. then its time to install service pack two. wont let me. it starts then comes up with an error, something like "C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" is already in use please exit all programs and try again. nothing open. i think that it might be worth it since i have put all my stuff back on the computer jsut to reformat again and try it again. but just wanted to see if you had any reccomendations first? anyways hope this is in the right place, if not feel free to move it. thanks alot!

Best way I found to install SP2 is to:
Reformat
Install XP
Install chipset drivers
Install SP2 before installing anything else
THEN install updates.
Install your apps.

SP2 installs best when there's as little as possible in the way.

Or you can slipstream SP2 onto the original disk and install everything at once. Google for slipstreaming programs. There are several.
