Having some internet problems!! HELP (SOS) Please

Hey guys its me again, how it going?
I know I just made a thread about MSN Explorer but I am having alot of internet problems. I am getting the same problem with different browsers. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape. I only tried MSN Explorer once and it worked, but then I check the IE/Firefox/Netscape and they were working. So I would assume I would get the same error with MSN Explorer when the other browsers are not working. Basically the error I am getting is "page cannoty be displayed" I believe its like error 404.
What is funny about it is it can work for abit like 5-15 minutes and sometimes even a few hours and then stop woking all of a sudden. I can leave it alone for a bit then it will start working. I can reboot the PC and it works again. Now I have a IP address that is owned by the ISP (Rogers Yahoo High Speed Cable Internet) so there is no problem there. When I go to the command prompt and ping any website it works. So I have an internet connection, so the problem is on my end somewhere. I was hoping I could get some help on this situation. The OS is Windows XP Pro SPK-1, this is my crappy computer as the one in my sig is at my dad's house (my parents are currently temporarily separated).

Well first thing you should go ahead and load service pack 2.

I'm seriously baffled, though, about your problem... I would suggest trying new drivers if possible, maybe being sure you're firewalls are up to date(or even disable them) I don't know if you use anything, but I have had Zone Alarm do some weird stuff in the past...
 
Wired Connection with no router. Direct from my modem to the computer. I use to use the Windows firewall but now it doesnt allow me to use it, I get a window poping up giving me some error saying it cant be turned on because the directory file is missing. I've tried using new drivers for my modem but it says it cannot find anything better then what is on my computer right now. I've also disabled my Spyware Doctor and my Kaskpersky Anti-Virus, thinking maybe it could be one of those causing the problem. If I really really have to upgrade to SPK-2 then I will do, but if I do then I'm gonna do a whole new installtion. But I am trying to avoid having to back up all the files on it, the word documents are not the problem the music is. And since the computer in my sig it at my dad place I dont have all my periphables to do a quick back up/.
 
1st thing I would do is click start, then run and type in msconfig. View the startup programs and make sure nothing is running in the back ground. You will most likely have to google some of them to make sure you dont need them. My guess is something is running in the back ground causing this. After you do that i would goto safety.live.com and run the only scanner and let that fix any registry issue or virus, spyware you may have.
 
I check what is runinng in the backround. I had actually disabled everything at one point a few years back cause my ISP told me to so that the computer would load and work faster and I could get on the net faster. Now everything looks fine. Kaspersky, Spyware Doctore, Quicktime, Java, MSN Messenger, MS Office, My Rogers Self-Healing Software, Lexmark Printer and my Mixer load up which is good. The Mixer is for my audio card its a separate PCI audio card and when I load the drivers it gives me a mixer which allows me to do some mixing as well as adjust the volume from there as well. The only thing that looks suspicious is this thing called pctptt (pctptt.exe). Does anyone know what that could be?
 
pctptt.exe is a diagnostic tool for pctel modems. Perhaps it would be a good idea to run it !
 
pctptt.exe is running in the background all the time.
Also I've noticed that once I get the page cannot be displayed error, if I were to open task manager and go to process and end Internet Explorer then my connection starts working again but IE is running even if I end it, it starts up again. But I am not using Internet Explorer, I am using Firefox.
