Having sound issues

Hey everyone.

I recently built my own computer and am having trouble with the sound aspect of it. Most of it is working fine... CD/DVD's play fine windows sounds are all fine. But anything on Windows Media Player wont work, and also 2 out of 6 of the games I've installed so far dont work sound wise. My sound card is a Genius 5.1 Sound Maker Value Series.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

What games? If you are using "EAX" in the games -- does your soundcard support that?

Thanks for the replies :)

I checked the troubleshooting website and I'm actually running windows 98, but I tried a few of the suggested things and none of them worked. I also triple checked all my sound settings to check if they were low or muted but they're not.

As for EAX, I'm not entirely sure if my soundcard supports it, I looked in the instructions and it said nothing of the sort. But one of the games that isnt working soundwise is Diablo 2. So since EAX seems like a fairly new thing I dont think Diablo 2 would use it considering how old it is now.
