Having trouble with CD-RW

Morning,

I have a dell dimension 4200 that I am working on and I am having trouble with the CD Drive reading any disc.

What's strange is that one time I took it to a friends house and it worked fine?

This was handed down to me awhile back and it did work.

Information that I have:

HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B

driver date: 7/1/2001

driver version: 5.1.2535.0

Any help here? It shows it's enable, but I am a bit stuck on what else I could do. Thanks

There are no special drivers for burners, microsoft has native drivers for it. Most likely the drive has just died on you. It's an old system so time to spend $25 on a new drive.

Thanks for the reply John, I have one more computer laying around so may go ahead and grab it from the other comp and see what the outcome is. Thanks

could try opening the tray and blowing lightly across the laser head.
Sometime dust etc settles and drops down across the laser head for read writing.
Its worked for me in the past.
