Having trouble with my usb ports

About a week ago i tried to hook up my girlfriends digital camera so she can put her pictures on her laptop...Well i went to go hook everything up and after i did i got no indication that the device was hooked up and ready to use..I tried to hook up multiple things after that and nothing worked...I was wondering if i need to download a driver and update my usb devices..And if so where would i have to go?

I had the same problem with my camera, i plugged it into the usb port and couldnt find it in 'my computer' folder. As you said i think you will need a driver for your camera. I decided to buy a card reader instead which cost about £15 these come with there own driver. hope this helps in some way. Julian
