Had my card around 2 weeks now,Great card.

Although i have two questions:

1)Why is is when i start gaming the fan on my card does not automaticly speed up to cope with the increased temps?

I have to manualy set it to 50% before i game everytime in Catalyst,Not that its a huge issue,I was just wondering why because back when i had my GTX 460 it did it itself and then went back down when i finished gaming....is there something im missing or do i have to set something?

2)Is there a way to lower the cards idle Core & Memory speeds when im not doing anything demanding?

When not doing anything catalyst reports my core clock at 250Mhz and memory 150 Mhz....can i lower them some more?

Thanks. ;)

AMD has had a bit of a problem with 2D clocks being so low the cards aren't stable. If you want to change them though you need to create a custom profile in CCC and edit the profile's xml file. I can give some more details on that if you'd like. As far as the fan speeds go, they will speed up, but the fan curve is probably aimed much more at noise levels than temperature efficiency. I used MSI Afterburner with my 6870 (And still do with my GTX 570) to both overclock it and to create a custom fan profile. It's a really nice program, but others are available if you don't like it. The custom fan profiles allow you to decide exactly how hot your card gets and how fast your fan will spin.

did you mess on with the bios?

Nope compleatly stock. :)

I imagine it's catalyst. See if there is an update for it.

Its the latest version :)

what other software do you know off other than CCC & Msi Afterburner?

My 470s are the same way. I have them SLI'd so a lot of heat is being generated. I usually just keep the fans on 100%. They're like a white noise to me now.

Rivatuner does and I think ATI tool supports them as well. Off the top of my head I can't think of many more but I'm pretty sure it's a common feature among overclocking programs.
